Chris Barlow, band director at Marion High School, makes a special guest appearance conducting his former band, the Kansas National Guard's 35th Infantry Division Band, in front of Old Glory on Tuesday at the Performing Arts Center. Barlow served with the 35th Infantry Band from October 2005 to April 2007 and now serves with Bravo Battery 1/161 FA out of Abilene.

Summer reading program participants concealed their identities by donning superhero masks they decorated Friday at Marion Library. The activity was part of the summer theme "Every Hero has a Story." Librarian Janet Marler said 120 children from preschool through eighth grade were enrolled, but others can still join. Children receive awards based on the amount they read. Ampride, Casey's General Store, Gambino's, Wagon Wheel, and Wendy's donated prizes.
