The return of turkey vultures to Marion from their winter trip south is another certain sign of spring, as the birds jockey for position on the old water tower at sunset Monday. Turkey vultures find the surrounding wooded areas, thick with groundcover, to be suitable breeding grounds with an ample supply of food. The birds are protected by federal law.

Mike Ottensmeier installs a siren speaker bracket on a new police interceptor Sunday, as Tyler Mermis waits to assist with reinstalling the bumper. Ottensmeier had to scrap this bracket, create an alternative from a Crown Victoria installation, and make some other minor adjustment for the bumper to fit over the siren.
Dakota Stimpson, center, assisted by Cody and Abigail Svoboda, accepts donations of food and cash for Marion County Food Bank from people who attended his barbecue Sunday at Lincolnville Community Center. He purchased and prepared the pork. With the help of his family, he served about 120 people, collected 242 food items, and raised $405.
