Marion County road and bridge employees delivered a limestone rock July 13 to Marion County Park and Lake to be used as a base for a CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) statue. The statue will be erected and dedicated in October.

Tournament play will begin at noon Thursday at Marion Sports Complex for the 12-and-under Cal Ripken State Tournament of Champions.

Pictured are pen pals Michelle Miesse and Katharina Mattheis, who recently spent three weeks together when Katharina visited Michelle and her family. Katharina is from Kiel, Germany, and has been a pen pal with Michelle for the past five years. The teen-agers met through a school assignment in eighth grade.

Marion County native Brendan Kraus opened a veterinary clinic and hospital in Florence this past week. Brendan is the son of Don and Vicki Kraus of Marion.

Kevin Costello and Tyson Heidebrecht represented Marion at the annual American Legion Boys’ State. The event was held June 13-19 on the Kansas State University campus.

The Marion home of Wendy and Justin Youk, located at 500 N. Third Street, is described in a full-page story in this issue. The property is rich in Marion history.
