Great organization, good weather, and many people created a perfect environment for the Chingawassa Days festival held Friday to Sunday in Marion’s Central Park.

The 75th (diamond) anniversary of P.E.O. Chapter DB was celebrated May 27 at the Marion Presbyterian Church. Those in attendance included Margaret Wolf and Norma Hannaford, members of the chapter for 73 and 74 years respectively.

Two MHS girls are attending Sunflower Girls’ State this week in Lawrence. They are Allison Wegerer, daughter of Lou and Judy Wegerer of Marion, and RoxAna Covarrubias, daughter of Gaspar and Vicki Covarrubias of Florence.

Marion City Library will have its grand opening July 14. This also will mark the 100th anniversary of the first library in Marion, which opened in 1902 in the courthouse. The library’s new location is the former Santa Fe Depot which itself is 90 years old.

Congressman Jerry Moran will make a brief stop in Marion Saturday to present a flag to Marion County Hospital District No. 1. The presentation will be on the front lawn of St. Luke Hospital. Moran will present a flag that has flown over the U.S. Capitol.

Senior Master Sergeant Dean Jost of Topeka was promoted Sunday to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant of the Kansas Air National Guard. He is the son of June and Lois Jost of Marion.
