Students at Marion High School participated Wednesday in a ceremony of remembrance for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Several students shared their feelings about the event. A balloon launch honored those who died during the attacks. MHS Singers led the student body in singing patriotic songs to conclude the program.

Gerald Wiens is pictured on the front page displaying some of the reprints of photos he will be selling Sept. 21 at his booth at Art in the Park. Wiens is a wildlife biologist and enjoys taking pictures of creatures in the wild and sharing them with others.

Craig Stolzfus of Hillsboro and John Brady of Abilene earned first place Aug. 25 at the Marion Lake Association catfish tournament. Second place winners were Todd Becker and Warren Kreutziger of Marion.

Leith, Inc., Marion, is selling picnic tables and benches made of recycled tires and plastic. Cost is $100 per bench and $210 per table. Dave and Troy Leith are pictured sitting on one of the comfortable benches.

Gary Melcher of El Dorado, former Marion High School all-star athlete, appeared before the USD 408 board Monday to explain a proposal for adoption of a coaches’ scholarship program. Jim Darrow of Marion accompanied Melcher to the meeting.
