Marion County Commissioners gave their tentative support Monday to the installation of about two dozen signs marking the Santa Fe Trail. Cost is about $5,000 but matching funds will cover part of the project.

Shawn Geis, Luci Helmer, and Tracy Waner are pictured as they package the remainder of 250 dozen cookies donated for Kansas servicemen stationed overseas. The Big Scoop spearheaded the drive in Marion. It was part of a program sponsored by radio station KFDI, Wichita.

The “Ol’ Thing” will pass another anniversary next week, in a long line of 133, to enter its 134th year of publication.

Weddings announced in this issue are those of Tina Wood and Brendan Kraus, Stacy Schmidtberger and Nathan Ross, and Tiffany Chase and Andy Albrecht.

Michele Griffith, daughter of John and Mary Griffith of Marion, was featured in the Sept. 10 issue of the Salina Journal. She is a speech instructor at Brown Mackie College and her photo was used to illustrate a story about the school’s 110th anniversary.

A tree was planted Sept. 11 at Butler County Community College of Marion in honor of the victims of the terrorist attacks.
