Marion County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to sign a contract purchasing the transfer station from its current owner, K.C. Development.

A barn belonging to Richard and Lenora Smith, 1305 Highway 77, Florence, is one of many pictured in a new publication, Barns of Kansas, A Personal History by architect Robert L. Marsh of Ottawa.

Emily and JayDee Schafers, daughters of Travis and Kelley Schafers, celebrated their birthdays recently with several individual parties.

A little country school built of limestone stands about a quarter of a mile north of U.S. 50 four miles east of Florence. Bichet School, Marion County District #34 was built in 1896 and operated until 1946. It is being nominated for the National Register of Historic Places.

Chelsea Arnhold as Annie Oakley and Justin Brookens as Frank Butler lead the cast of Marion High School students in the musical, “Annie Get Your Gun.”

The marriage of Carla Stovall of Topeka and Larry Steckline of Garden Plain was solemnized Aug. 31 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Grove, Okla. The bride is the daughter of Carl and Juanita Stovall of Marion.

P.E.O. Chapter DB met Nov. 4 for a tour of the newly re-decorated St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen. Margaret Vinduska was their tour guide and shared the history of the church.
