Marion insurance agent Jeff Cady was elected Friday as president of Marion Chamber of Commerce for 2003. Elected to serve along with other members of the board of directors were Mitch Carlson and Chris Costello.

Dave Hett and his wife Michelle plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve the same way they have since 2000 — by lowering a lighted metal ball on the flagpole on the west side of the courthouse at midnight, Dec 31.

Justin Brookens, a junior at Marion High School, has been named to first chair trumpet of the Kansas Music Educators Association all-state orchestra. The orchestra will perform at the KMEA state convention in February.

Congratulations to the winners of the “Christmas on us!” promotion by Marion and Peabody sponsors. Grand prize winner of $1,000 is Gerald Wiens. Second place of $250 goes to Matt Buchanan. Jack Boese receives $100 as third prize.
