The Marion County Courthouse looked stately in the snow following an unexpected storm Thursday afternoon. Meteorologists said the surprise snowstorm formed in the Rockies, gathered moisture, then moved into Kansas dumping between one and six inches of snow around the county and contributing to several accidents.

Jason Matz, Marion High School senior, has been named to the 3-A All-State Football Team. Matz also received all-league honors and will have the honor of having his picture hung on the Wall of Fame at the Marion High School Gymnasium. He is the son of Craig and Denise Matz.

Obituaries appearing in this issue include those of Della Rittgers, Harold McKibbin, Thelma Schlotthauer, Bud McLinden, Irene Frantz, and Scott Mason.

Two Marion County employees, Jim “Butch” Cogdill and Dale Snelling, were honored for 40 years of service as Marion County employees in December at the county’s annual Christmas party. Each received an engraved knife.

The engagement of Gabrielle Dawn Longhofer and Christopher Case Darrow is announced this week by their parents. The couple plans to be married May 31.
