Herb and Joyce Jackson played host to two Chinese men during the recent Christmas holiday. The Jacksons became acquainted with one of the men, Pang Tianhong, during the time they taught in China between 1999 and 2001. Both are in the United States working on master’s degrees in public administration at New Haven University in Connecticut.

The Marion County Leadership training class for 2003 has been chosen by the board of trustees. Those selected are Michel Soyez, Marion; Tina Novak, Tampa; Roger O’Neal, Peabody; Sarah Cope, Florence; Carolyn Koehn, Burns; and Gina Edwards, Jim Elliot, and Megan Kilgore, Hillsboro.

“Beary Special Babies” born last month at St. Luke Hospital were Ashley Nicole Love born Dec. 3 and Todd James Palic born Dec. 11.

The Christensen family celebrated the first birthday of Matthew William Christensen Jan. 1 at the home of his parents and sister, Jay and Cheryl Christensen and Katelyn.

Emily Svoboda was first place winner in the recent Voice of Democracy contest sponsored by Marion VFW Post 6958 and Women’s’ Auxiliary. Svoboda received a $100 savings bond. Bryce Nelson received a $75 bond as second place winner. Third place winner Lee Ownbey received a $50 savings bond.
