Heidi Thurston and her children, Jacob, Rachel, and Hunter are pictured as they spend an afternoon at Brooker Plaza in Marion’s Central Park. Despite wind gusts of 40 mph, the Thurstons took advantage of the warm temperatures to sail toy boats and play in Central Park.

A collection of books and writings by Marion native and Kansas historian, Dr. Homer Socolofsky, will be received at a dedication ceremony April 28 at Marion City Library.

The annual junior-senior banquet was held Saturday evening. Following the traditional promenade at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, dinner was enjoyed in the church’s Wesley Center. The prom was held in the high school gym after the banquet. An after-prom party, “Life is a Beach,” was held at El Dorado YMCA.

Family and friends of Marjorie Sandwell, will celebrate her 80th birthday Saturday at the Ed Sandwell home.

Births announced in this issue include Abigail Rose Stuchlik, daughter of Gary and JoAnn Stuchlik of Marion born April 9 at St. Luke Hospital, Lauren Lee Spohn, daughter of Ryan and Claudine Spohn of Iowa City, born April 13, and Kara Beth Riffel, daughter of James and Beth Riffel of Tampa, born March 24.
