Long time, well-known, and highly regarded Marion Police Department sergeant Garry Klose has announced his retirement. A public reception will be held Aug. 29 at Marion City Hall in recognition of his 24 years of service.

Couples announcing celebrations of their wedding anniversaries in this week’s paper are Maurice and Margaret Stroda of Ramona, 55 years, and George and Earline Hardey of Florence, 50 years.

Roger Hannaford III and Alex “Casey” Case worked the grill Friday night preparing brats and chicken wings for those attending the Chamber of Commerce “After Hours” event in the parking lot behind Hannaford Abstract and Title Company and Case and Son Insurance Agency.

Between 25 and 30 owners of Model A Fords, made in the 1920s and 1930s, stopped Sunday for a midday dinner at Kingfisher’s Inn. All participants were members of the Wichita A’s Club for Model A enthusiasts.

Kansas farms are known for producing crops and livestock, but the farm of Gary and Beverly Helmer also produces water turtles. Without fail every spring, several adult turtles make their way one-quarter of a mile from a nearby creek to lay their eggs near the farmstead.
