The Marion County Record doffs its old Stetson this week to Marion merchant DuWayne Suffield who displayed a great example of volunteerism and community cooperation by leading the drive to assure the fireworks display on Labor Day is continued another year at Marion County Park and Lake. Until this year, the display was financed by Marion County. However, faced with extreme budget problems, the commissioners could not provide funding for this year’s event.

The entire family of Charles and Virginia Heerey enjoyed an early celebration of their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary when they spent 10 days, from July 31 to Aug. 10, in the Hawaiian Islands.
