Marion County Commissioners have authorized County Sanitarian David Brazil to solicit bids for removal and disposal of the hazardous waste recently discovered beneath courthouse grounds.

Katie Zogelman and Whitney Wear, pictured, both juniors at Marion High School, were among six people who worked fast Thursday evening, both with brooms then with rollers, cleaning and painting the huge letter “M” on the hillside about a mile east of Warrior Stadium.

Marion National Bank President Jim Hefley has announced the appointment of Don Noller as the bank’s senior vice president.

Amy Goering, a junior, and senior Tyler Stubenhofer have been named Students of the Month for September at Marion High School. Amy’s parents are Charles and Annora Goering. Tyler is the son of Missy and Steve May.

Marcel Tajchman of McPherson retired from Certainteed Corporation Aug. 31 after being a manager in the manufacture and installation of plastic and other industrial products for 44 years. Tajchman is the son of Angela Tajchman and the late Frank Tajchman and is a 1956 graduate of Marion High School.

The annual Hett reunion was held Aug. 10 with 125 members and guests attending.
