According to organizers, attendance at Art in the Park was up from the previous year. As usual, vendors and shoppers expressed appreciation for the beautiful park setting and relaxing atmosphere.

Margaret Jirak of rural Tampa has received the Marion County Grand Gardener award from the North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging. She was recognized Sept. 16 at a public ceremony at the Bicentennial Center in Salina.

The 50th wedding anniversary of Jim and Verla Cott of Salina will be celebrated Oct. 4 in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church, Salina.

Amy Tajchman and Tyler Stubenhofer were crowned Marion High School homecoming queen and king Friday night at the Marion-Sacred Heart football game. Little helpers for the event were Evan Calhoun and Phoebe Hett

John Goentzel of Marion, who has worked at Boeing of Wichita since 1985, is spending almost three months in Italy. He is acting as a Boeing consultant to an Italian company that builds military planes for the Italian government.

The Huck Boyd National Institute for Rural Development this week announced that Marion newspaperman Bill Meyer has been recognized as a “Leader of the Year.”
