Marion County residents spent Monday digging out after a weekend storm brought ice followed by more than eight inches of snow.

Marion High School’s queen and king of courts will be announced Friday evening during halftime festivities of the boys’ basketball game against Sacred Heart. The queen candidates are Courtney Geis, Emmy Bowers, and Caitlin O’Dell. King candidates are Jerad Hett, Nickolas Hett, and Clayton Chamberland.

This month’s “Beary Special Baby” at St. Luke Hospital is Emma Shae Box, born Jan. 14. She also is the first baby born at the hospital in 2004.

Alf Landon was portrayed by Emporia State University professor Loren Pennington Thursday during Marion’s fourth annual Kansas Day celebration sponsored by the Marion County Democratic Women.

Aaron Barney and Trisha Pauls were crowned Centre High School’s 2004 winter homecoming king and queen Friday. Barney is the son of Gene and Denise Barney, Tampa. Pauls is the daughter of Darlene Hubbard of Lincolnville.

Zachary Ewert of Marion has been named to the president’s honor roll at Coffeyville Community College for the 2003 fall semester.
