Lee Leiker will take the helm next year as Marion-Florence USD superintendent of schools. Board of Education members approved Leiker’s signed contract at their regular meeting Monday night.

Gilbert and Phyllis Turk will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 22 with an open house and dinner at Holy Family Parish Hall in Marion.

Marion County Commission has received official notice that Amelia Park Bridge in Marion County has been entered into the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge is located west of U.S. 77 on 260th Street. The county-owned stone-arch bridge was built in 1914.

Don and Betty Fruechting and Bob and Judy Priest traveled to Mount Pleasant, S.C., in January to do three weeks of volunteer mission work at the United Methodist Relief Center in Mount Pleasant.

Final games were played Saturday by the fifth and sixth grade teams of the Marion Youth Basketball league. Members of the teams included Brandon Coleman, Isaac Hett, Cody Wildin, Louis Holt, Wil Case, Adam Maag, Tyler Ediger, Eric Vogel, Tyler Neil, Brian Fruechting, Randy Carlson, Drew Maddox, Chris Guetersloh, Sam Ehrlich, Ryan Jones, Mitch Cady, and Parker Ash. Jerry Hett coached both teams.
