Harvest 2004 is in full swing in Marion County. Farmers were busy cutting wheat Monday trying to get as much cut as possible before the next storm. Rain measuring three inches to more than four inches was reported Sunday morning with predictions for more rain Monday night and Tuesday.

James Meier, Marion High School graduate, is a Republican candidate for Kansas 17th State Senate District. Meier said he was prompted to run because it’s time for a change.

Tamra Holub of Marion and a Marion High School graduate has been promoted to sergeant by the U.S. Army. Holub currently is deployed to Tikrit, Irak. She is the daughter of Daniel and Rhonda Holub of Marion.

Misti Richmond attended the Kansas Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar June 10-13 in Wichita. Richmond is a member of the Marion High School Key Club and was sponsored by the Marion Kiwanis Club.

Shawn Markley, a 1997 graduate of Marion High School, received a doctor of pharmacy degree March 22 during commencement exercises at the University of Kansas. Markley is the son of Darwin and Sue Markley of Marion and has accepted a position Osco Drug in Independence, Mo.
