A whirlwind dipped out of the clouds the morning of June 15 and severely damaged the farmyard of Leonard and Marla Meyer, southeast of Lincolnville.

Specialist Simon Makovec, son of Gail and Marissa Makovec of Ramona, and his unit, Battery C, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, were returning to Newton following two week’s training at Fort Riley when they stopped at the Marion Pizza Hut for lunch. Makovec’s parents, sisters, and grandmother joined the group for lunch.

Central Park Antiques and Golf Shop owners Kay Navrat and Fred Houseman are pictured with Marion Chamber of Commerce members Roger Hannaford III, Matt Classen, Gene Winkler, Kevin Fruechting, Jami Williams, Casey Case, Don Noller and Tom Kimbrel as they are presented with a framed “first dollar of profit” certificate.

Max and Pat Merrill of Lenexa celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 12 at a dinner for family and friends at the Carriage Club in Kansas City.

Six Marion High School students recently were inducted into 2003-04 National Honor Roll. The students are Clayton Garnica, Amy Goering, Nikki Moody, Misti Richmond, Brandi Peterie-Simpson, and Sarah Williams.
