The City of Marion recently adopted an ordinance allowing the sale and discharge of fireworks within the city limits. A fireworks stand will be located on west Main Street near Al’s Home Repair. Proceeds of the sale will benefit Marion Advancement Campaign, a local foundation.

Professional movers had a cleared highway Tuesday morning when they moved a two-story house from the rural home of Sheldon and Karen Miles at 1441 U.S.-56 west of Marion and delivered it to Blair and Nancy Tharp’s residence at Bluestem Road, east of Marion.

Descendants of Steve and Ida Sandwell met Sunday at the Scout House in Hillsboro for a covered dish luncheon.

A group led by Marion High School English teacher Diana Costello, has returned following a 10-day trip, June 2 to 12, to Ireland, Wales, England, and Paris, France, where they visited sights chronicled in classic literature. Many members of the tour group were MHS students.

Jim Cloutier, owner of Shawmar Oil and Gas Company, is donating money for the Labor Day fireworks display at the Marion County Park and Lake because he said it is “time to give some back” to benefit Marion County volunteer firefighters. He said, “They do it for us…they certainly have helped me.”
