Becoming the second business in the state to do so, grocery store owners, Greg and Linda Carlson and Mitch Carlson, recently updated the store’s cash registers and software with necessary equipment to accommodate future changes in bar codes.

Births announced in this issue include a daughter, Makenzie Ann, born Aug. 10 to Josh and Sara Wildin of St. Marys.

Tuesday was moving day at the office of Social and Rehabilitation Services in Marion. Two staffers are retiring but several are moving to the consolidated regional office in Newton.

Pictured is a photograph taken about 1926 showing the post office and general store in the former community of Elk. The accompanying feature tells of the creation of the village of Elk on the Marion-Chase county line.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Ehrlich of rural Marion gathered the weekend of July 2-3 to celebrate the Ehrlichs’ 50th wedding anniversary.

Fourth grader Cara Martin attended a concert Sunday night at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita featuring Hilary Duff, Disney singer and star. Not only did Cara attend the concert, but she also had the opportunity to meet her idol face to face and to have her picture taken with her.
