Marion will kick-off the holiday season at 5 p.m. Friday when Santa arrives via fire truck at his house between Duckwall’s and Suffield’s where he will be available to visit with children. Many other activities, including another visit from Santa, will be held through Friday and Saturday.
Rick Sardou and Linda Goodwill of R&L Creative Carvings of Marion were recognized in September at the Kansas State Fair for their business booth display. They received the governor’s award for the 2004 grand champion inside exhibitor single booth display Pictured with Goodwill and Sardou is Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
Seventh grader Parker Ash was the over-all winner of the VFW “Patriot’s Pen” essay contest. Marshall Ragland was second in the seventh grade category. Eighth grade winners were Elliot Hett, first, and Eugene Overton, second. First place winners received $100 U.S. Savings Bond. Second place winners received $50 bonds.
Morning kindergarten students at Marion Elementary School, under the direction of Katie Rahe and Lana Fahey, presented “Hurray for Thanksgiving” Friday morning to the delight of their parents.
