A story on the front page features trapper, fur harvester Leonard “Mick” Meyer of rural Lincolnville. Meyer is pictured in front of several rows of drying raccoon and skunk pelts. The pelts are sold to a licensed fur dealer for whatever the market brings. Meyer also extracts “skunk essence” which brings him up to $10 per ounce when sold to manufacturers who incorporate it into liquid lures used by trappers to draw wild animals into traps.

Three Marion High School graduates received endowment scholarships from the University of Kansas during the 2004 fall semester. They are Ethan Good, son of Bob and Joann Good, Melissa Moffitt, daughter of Frank and Jan Moffitt, and Karson Craig., daughter of Kevin and Debbie Craig.

Marion Police Chief Michel Soyez reports that two in-car cameras have been installed in the city’s patrol cars. A third will be purchased and installed after this year’s patrol car rotation.

Teeny Williams, a resident at Marion County Lake, is pictured with a crewel-embroidered heirloom bedspread she has donated as a fund-raiser for St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary.

Warrior Jason Hett scored only five points Friday against Ellinwood, but recorded a season high nine rebounds and added three assists. Dale Vogel scored 18 points and snared eight rebounds. Marion defeated the Eagles 50-26.
