Henry Shockley, Florence native now living in Marion, is pictured displaying the book, “Hearts,” the story of his experiences as a reconnaissance squad leader in Vietnam. The book is now available in major bookstores and online.

With Marion High School’s junior Julia Zeiner’s triple jump of 37 feet, 11½ inches this past weekend at the KU Relays in Lawrence, she became the first female athlete from MHS to take first place at the relays.

Gerri Williams of Marion and Shelley Stafford of Hays returned to Kansas Monday after spending the weekend in North Carolina attending the Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina pageant in which their daughter and sister, Teresa Higgins, participated.

Centre High School power lifting team won at Tescott April 4 and went on the following Saturday to win the state 1A power-lifting meet at Bushton. Team members are Adam Kristek, Canh Antoszyk, Adam Matz, Konley Harding, Mikael Antoszyk, Rustyn Kerbs, Casey Kristek, Zach Antoszyk, James Weber, and Cole Svoboda.

Marion City Library is one of 256 libraries in the U.S. to be named an America Star Library by Library Journal magazine.
