It took two and one-half years, but Jim Cloutier has reopened the historic Elgin Hotel. Visitors toured the renovated bed and breakfast Saturday during the Art at the Elgin fundraiser for Marion Youth Advancement Committee.

Bridget Lundy has been chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary to attend the 67th annual Sunflower Girls State June 7-12 on the University of Kansas Lawrence campus. She is the daughter of Bill and Mickey Lundy of Marion.

Stan Wiles, longtime physical education teacher and coach at Centre USD 397, was honored by fellow staff members Thursday at a noon luncheon and reception. He is retiring after 31 years of teaching, including 28 at Centre.

Marion Youth Advancement Committee raised more than $1,000 Saturday with Art at the Elgin for a planned youth center. The fundraiser included a silent auction of elementary students’ donated artwork in the afternoon and a live auction of donated pieces in the evening.

Wheelchair athlete Kenny Herriot rode his bicycle through Marion County Thursday. He is riding across the U.S. to raise awareness of a foundation raising money for childhood cancer research.
