Relay for Life of Marion County raised more than $49,500 this weekend. Twenty-two teams participated with more than 70 survivors and caregivers taking the opening lap of the relay Friday night in USD 410 Sports Center after weather prompted a move indoors.

Robert and Irma Meisinger, Marion, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 5.

KU medical student Amanda Baxa is training with Dr. Randal Claassen now through July at his clinic in Hillsboro. Both are working with the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Healthy Living Kansas and Rural Primary Care Practice and Research programs.

The community is invited to attend a recognition ceremony July 19 at Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post honoring Master Sergeant James Schlehuber and Senior Airman Matt Williams who recently returned from their third tour in Iraq.

Marion swimmer Whitney Christensen is pictured as she competes in the girl’s 50-yard freestyle Saturday at USD 408 Sports and Aquatics Center. She placed second in the event. Overall, Marion Blue won the meet.
