Kansas’ 1st Congressional District Representative Tim Huelskamp was in Marion Friday to meet with constituents. He displayed a series of graphs depicting the current and projected state of the national debt and spoke of the need for reforms in entitlement programs.
Sophomore Corey Shields is this week’s MHS Athlete of the Week. Corey won the shot put Friday at the Beloit Relays with a throw of 34’ 3¾” — more than two feet better than the second place distance. He also was fourth in discus with 92’ 6”.
Clinic assistant Pam Holub has been chosen outstanding employee of the second quarter of 2011 at St. Luke Hospital and Living Center.
Marion High School musicians competed Saturday in the state Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival at Southeast of Salina, Gypsum. All entries received I ratings except one vocal soloist and the women’s’ ensemble. On Sunday they competed at the Festival of Choirs at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City with all entries receiving I ratings and placed first in their classification.
The Lincolnville United Methodist Church is closing and will have the last service at 10 a.m. May 22. The Rev. Kennedy Mukwindidza, former pastor, will be the guest speaker. The Rev. Rick Saylor will perform the deconsecrating ceremony.
An exhibit nearly a city block long of the camera work of former Marion resident, master photographer Les Broadstreet, will be featured during the month at the Kansas Masonic Home Art Gallery in Wichita.
The exhibit includes many prominent Wichita residents. One display Broadstreet is particularly proud of is one of Catholic priest Emil Kapaun, Marion County native who is being considered for sainthood.
