The grassy triangle at the west end of the stone-arch bridge has been a thing of beauty this summer and has added much to the attractiveness of that part of Main Street. Main credit in the matter is due to Mr. John Siebert who has regularly watered the grass and flowerbeds there.

The Marion County Old Settlers’ Picnic has been called for Oct. 16 and preparations will be made for a big attendance and a big time.

Mrs. J.W. Payne has opened a school of dressmaking in the Record building, and will cordially welcome all ladies interested in this work.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schroer are the parents of a girl born on Monday of this week. This makes the thirteenth child and they are all living and well.

The WCTU will meet next
Thursday with Mrs. Buschlen. There will be a report of the district convention and a suffrage program.

Yesterday’s daily papers stated that a movement has been started among manufacturers of motor cars to raise 10 million dollars for promoting a transcontinental highway. The Old Santa Fe Trail is a part of this great Ocean to Ocean Highway, and should the project go through Marion would be right in the game.

John Livoni returned from Germany last night, having had a delightful trip. His daughter, Miss Lena Livoni, will return in about a month.
