V.E. Helea, City Marshal, and for many years a prominent citizen here, was shot and killed instantly a few minutes after three o’clock last Friday morning, March 10. Seldom has the community been so shocked. The man who did the deed, and who gives his name as Chas. R. Lower, is in jail here, together with his pal, Louis L. Myers.

The Morning Star folks got the organ, which Dr. Eye offered to give, and referred to last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ferm have purchased the Miesse Bakery and took possession on Wednesday. Ernest Noce will continue as baker and Roy Frazer will take Maurice Miesse’s place. We wish the Ferms the same large success in their new enterprise that they formerly enjoyed here in the picture show business.

The Tennis Club is planning to make some improvements in their courts south of the Santa Fe depot so as to have them ready for use as soon as the warm weather comes to stay.

A great moving picture of the San Francisco Exposition is coming to the Auditorium Monday evening. The scenic effects are exceptionally good, the live objects are most natural and realistic, and the educational benefits derived are priceless. Show starts at 7:30.

Invitations have been issued to a large number of guests by Mesdames Taylor Riddle Sr., D.M. Baird, and Helen Miesse to a St. Patrick’s Party at Mrs. Riddle’s home.
