The county commissioners have ordered a Delco lighting plant for the County Farm residence. The commissioners and superintendent have long felt the danger of using kerosene lamps there—some of the people there being unable to handle lamps at all. This installation is a needed improvement, and the cost is not great considering all the advantages.

The finest peaches we have seen this year were some, which were raised by H.K. Siebert. They are prizewinners, some measuring as much as ten and a half inches in circumference.

The soldier boys look fine in their new uniforms which arrived several days ago. And the boys are making splendid progress in their drilling.

“And speaking of Fred Stout,” remarked Bob Florer, “I know how proud and excited a daddy can be over the birth of his first child, and how he will go around town telling all of the folks about it, but this is the first time ever knew a man to have the fire bell rung on “such an occasion.”

The free mail delivery for Marion begins on October 1. There will be two carriers but as the examinations have not yet been ordered by the government, there will be temporary appointments. The city commission passed an ordinance on Tuesday providing for the marking of the streets and the numbering of the houses.

A handsome silver bugle was presented to Co. M. on Monday, a gift from interested citizens of the community.
