The people of Marion have been greatly pleased this week over the announcement that President Wilson has given a splendid appointment to Henderson S. Martin. He has been appointed vice-governor and commissioner of education of the Philippine Islands for four years at an annual salary of $15,500.00. There is just one sting — losing Martin and his family from town. However, four years will not be long, and they will come back to Marion.
C.W. Thompson has been in St. Louis and Chicago this past week buying goods for The Grand.
Margaret Hill McCarter, the widely known Kansas author, will deliver a lecture Dec. 5 in the Marion Auditorium. Mrs. McCarter is not only a gifted writer but also an exceedingly entertaining and forceful speaker. The admission will be only 25 cents.
Harry K. Rogers will play the part of Steve in “The Virginian” Dec. 2 at the Auditorium. Rogers, whom you all know well, played this part last spring.
In the absence of Mr. and Mrs. T.P. Burkert, their friends are eating Thanksgiving dinner in their Marion home. Those expected at the dinner are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Burkert, the Greasart family, the Marner family, Mr. and Mrs. Loren McHenry, Mrs. Wm. Shambaugh, the Wible family, and Ola Yost.
