A nice improvement is being put down by the spring in the park.

For some time, the high bank from the spring to the concrete bridge has been so exposed that there has been some danger of the big overhanging rocks breaking loose.

Crossing stones that have been taken out where paving was put in will be used in a retaining wall that will protect the bank from floods and support big trees that are being undermined by weather.

It will also help the looks of things down there.

Billy Doyle of Florence sold a stack of alfalfa the other day for $487.17. The Lewis Crusher people bought the stack, did the hauling and the weighing, and paid him $15 a ton net. Has anyone in Marion County sold one stack of alfalfa for more money than that?

A.E. Case has received a splendid picture of Tom Wise, one of the first county commissioners. He received it from Tom Wise Jr., who lives in Wichita. It will be added to the large collection that adorns the walls of the courthouse corridors.

The schools, Civic League, and Commercial Club have united in promoting contests for boys and girls in gardening, care of flowerbeds and lawns, canning, and sewing. Fine prizes and school credits will be given.
