One week from next Sunday is the 27th anniversary of the admission of Kansas into the Sisterhood of States, and it is appropriately proposed by Superintendant Zercher that all schools in the county observe, say Monday, as a day sacred to memories of these 29 eventful years.

A dispatch from Newton announces the discovery of coal there at a depth of 375 feet. The vein is said to be two feet thick. We mix a good deal of salt with all such news in Kansas, but hope the story is true.

During her 20 years of married life, Mrs. John Guest of Wichita has presented her husband with 22 children. She has twice given birth to twins and once to triplets. She was indeed hospitable; she kept a house full of Guests.

A good many incandescent electric lights were turned on yesterday evening. The whole system is not complete, but will be pushed to completion as rapidly as the weather will permit.

Robert Burns’ birthday will be observed, as is the annual custom, by the Burns Club at Cottonwood Falls next Wednesday evening.
