Mr. A.J. Jex, of Canada, a nephew of Mr. Stephen Jex, arrived in Marion last week. He comes to look up a location for a carriage factory. He is said to be a master mechanic, and bears the impress of a fine gentleman, personally. He is agreeably surprised with this country, finding it much better than he expected. We believe there is a profitable field here for him in his line, and hope to record his permanent location among us.

Cedar street is being graded, at a small expense to the lot owners. With a little effort and a very little outlay, every street might be wonderfully improved in this way.

A party of young people, in six pleasure boats, went down the Cottonwood, Tuesday, and enjoyed a regular old fashion May Day picnic in the woods. The following boys and girls constituted the gay company: Charlie Bowlby, Frankie Miller, Claude Wishart, Scottie Davis, George Trenner, Mabel Lewis, Herbert Tomlinson, Alma Keeve, Isaac Runyan, Cora Forney, George Dean, Hattie Bowlby, Lillie Forney.

On the 15th inst., Mr. Harry Booth, the popular and rising “junior” of the Florence Herald will lead to the hymeneal altar Miss Daisy Rankin, stepdaughter of Major J.K. McLean, of Florence. The Record desires in advance of the happy event to tender its congratulations and very best wishes.
