Each recurring Memorial Day seems to eclipse past ones in Marion. The manner in which our people honored the day this year, shows that the memory of those who offered to die that our country might live is held in sacred reverence here. People came from far and near to share with townspeople in paying this beautiful annual tribute of flowers and tears to our country’s defenders.

The Rock Island folks have put the rates to the great National conventions down to one cent per mile. The round trip to St. Louis, for instance, next week, will cost just $8.54, which beats walking greatly.

According to the State Journal, the first Y.M.C.A. in Kan sas is to be erected at Salina and is to cost $40,000. A charter has been secured and the building is to be erected this season. The first Y.M.C.A. building in Kansas—a $20,000 structure—is nearing completion in Marion. The second one is well under way at Wichita. Salina, like scores of other towns, is talking of erecting one and we hope will succeed.

Superintendent Riddle is having supply mains laid on Elm street for the accommodation of parties living north of Denver street.

People can now cross the stone arch bridge without holding their noses. That sewer has been fixed.
