Wm. Kellison deserves much commendation for his setting an example for the city and property owners. He has in a fine manner macadamized Main Street in front of his lots. He has done this at his own expense in order to stimulate efforts on the part of the city. Such an example is worthy of patterning after and we trust that it shall come right early.

Messrs. Marsh and McNabb, meat merchants, have dissolved partnership and the business will be continued by Mr. Marsh at the old stand.

Squire W.C. Hill of Hillsboro graced our streets on New Year’s Day.

Drs. Weems & Youmans successfully operated on three ladies from Lehigh, last Monday, for crossed eyes, and on last Friday, a very difficult surgical operation on Mr. J. Mills, living one mile south of the city.

The farmers report wheat to be in excellent condition. The snow was worth several rains. All are eager to begin spring ploughing.

A large number of persons were out with their smoked glass observing the eclipse. The day was fair and warm but became cool and clouded toward sunset.

The New Year’s Ball at the opera house passed off quietly. A number were present from Florence and the music was furnished by a Florence orchestra. Refreshments were served at the Elgin Hotel.
