The election held in this city last Monday to vote $16,000 in bonds to the Marion Belt and Chingawasa Springs railroad resulted in the success of the measure by a voted of 253 to 97.

Council Proceedings

The regular session was held in the City Clerk’s office with Councilmen Wheeler, Beck, Hazleton, Walton, Billings and Jex present.

The report of the street and alley committee, laid over from last week, was adopted except that portion referring to Elm street. The city attorney was requested to draw up an ordinance fixing the width of sidewalks. The city engineer was instructed to draw up specifications of work recommended in the committee’s report and for guttering and curbing Main street.

We were fearful that the ground hog would go back on his record this year, after the Record seemed to go back on him, but not so. He is still the most popular and successful weather prognosticator in the business.

One week from to-morrow, there will be a general sale at the Rink Livery stable of horses, cattle and farming implements of all kinds. The design is to make this and following sales the means of disposing of stocks and goods, and anyone who has anything to sell can take it there and it will be sold.

Considerable oats have been sown in Wilson township and many all around are doing their spring plowing.
