The Council had a very lengthy and interesting meeting on Monday evening. Considerable time was spent in discussing the franchise to the Marion Belt and Chingawasa Springs Railroad, the ordinance of which is published in this week’s Record. Read it carefully. The city clerk was ordered to draw up an ordinance providing for the curbing, guttering and macadamizing Main street. Several street crossings were ordered put in.

Brown Corby is now learning lullabies such as “Rock-a-by-Baby on the Tree Top,” and interesting himself in the relative merits of paregoric and Mrs. Winslow’s soothing syrup. Girl.

A splendid rain fell here Saturday night and Sunday. It was a good soaking rain, just what the growing wheat, oats, garden truck, etc. needed, and farmers wear a broad grin.

Emile Firman of Florence has been appointed Kansas commissioner to the Paris Exposition.

Uncle Wm. Kellison has from 2,500 to 3,000 bushels of corn, which he will sell at the general sale on Main street next Saturday, and each succeeding Saturday until it is sold. Here is an excellent opportunity for farmers to get grain for seed or for feed, for a credit of six months will be given on notes of good approved security at 10 percent interest.
