The Commencement of the Marion High School Class of ’89 took place at Jex’s Opera House last Friday evening. There were 11 in the class, and each recited from memory an oration prepared for the occasion. Bouquets of beautiful flowers and other presents were sent up and laid at the feet of each one as he finished his address, so that at the close, the stage presented the appearance of a beautiful flower garden.
Taylor Riddle’s soda fountain is in “full blast” and the beverage he is dispensing is first class.
About 60 colored peopled passed through here on the Rock Island, Wednesday, bound for Oklahoma.
Pyle & Perkins have recently adorned Mr. Paul Jones’ residence with fine specimens of their carpentering skill, in the form of three porches.
While in Alma, Wabaunsee county, a few weeks ago, the writer “run across” T.R. Cleek, who barbered in Marion in 1874. He revived many old memories of the grasshopper year.
W.H. Dudley, as inspector of the new school building, during one of his inspections this week, fell and seriously injured his wrist. Arnica proved to be the panacea.
