There is “talk” of an “original package” house opening in Marion. Let it be understood that whoever opens it and those who patronize it, will alike outrage the decent public sentiment which prevails here, and which will sooner or later defeat all such efforts to debauch this community.

M.P. Abbott, a prominent citizen of Abilene, visited Chingawasa the first of the week and was so delighted with the scenery and the water that he will probably bring his family to spend a portion of the summer at this beautiful resort.

L.F. Keller went up to Topeka yesterday to secure a tent and make arrangements for his family to attend the great Chautauqua meeting.

Mr. Joseph F. Bryant, a prominent Bethany, Mo., banker, and son, who have considerable financial interests here, have been in town this week, and “took in” Chingawasa of course, with which they were charmed.

Lawyer McDuffie is in town this morning distributing Fourth of July bills, for the celebration at his place. The bills declare that “Independence Day would be free to all,” and say, “It won’t cost you anything to enter the sylvan shades.” This is evidently a slam at Peabody.

T.W. Whiting of Council Grove, the Old Santa Fe Trail man, was here on Tuesday on a tour of inspection of the trail.
