APRIL 1, 1892

A heavy gale, almost a hurricane, blew all last night, doing considerable damage, smashing glass fronts, blowing down chimneys, lifting the roof from the canning factory, upturning out house, etc.

Mr. I.E. Myers returned this week from a visit to his boyhood home in Ohio. Gene says his native Ohio town is about the size of Marion and yet has seventeen open saloons. The contrast made him prouder than ever of Prohibition Kansas.

Our excellent fellow-citizen, Capt. Fred Lewis, Marion’s popular Postmaster, was delighted last week by a visit from his brother, Fred Roedner of St. Louis. The Record has heretofore told the romantic story of Capt. Lewis’ childhood, his lost name and his discovery of his real identity a few years ago and the reunion with his brother in St. Louis and other members of the family.

Mr. Zack Taylor, who is always interesting himself in some humanitarian cause, is now busy promoting help for the starving poor in Russia.

Mr. J.E. Allen, better known as Ed, has gone to St. Louis to study medicine. He is a farmer boy who has secured a good education, and made a success as a teacher and won a host of friends by his intelligence, industry and excellent deportment. Here’s to your success, Ed.
