Leavenworth and some other little towns are bragging about having telephones in operation. Why, Marion Centre has had several of the things in full blast for many months, one of them connecting the Cottonwood Valley Bank and hotel, a distance of more than 600 feet.

Uncle George Griffith continues to bag the antelope. Seven were the result of a recent hunt.

The Court House project has got into court, and the first legal set-to was had before Judge Peters, at Newton, last Tuesday, on a petition by the south-side, praying for an order from the court restraining the Commissioners from the further prosecution of the enterprise. The Judge was in the midst of court, and could grant but a couple of hours for a presentation of the case, at the end of which time the further hearing of the matter was postponed till to-morrow.

The population of Marion Centre is increasing very rapidly. A girl at Fred Rouse’s, a boy at Evin Hoops’, and girl at Mr. Freeborn’s, and all the returns not in yet.

Mr. J.C. Hamilton’s stable fell in last week, killing one horse and badly injuring another. It was quite a misfortune for Mr. Hamilton, who is a hard working poor man.

The old “Billiard” sign has been replaced by nice letters, better suited to the thriving grocery, dry goods, and clothing business being done by Mr. V. Steiner.
