First-time deer hunter Ryan Jones, 18, of Marion hit pay dirt Dec. 2 when he shot two deer at the same time. The deer were standing next to each other when Ryan’s shot went through one and into the other.

An article in this issue covers an incident reported in the Marion County Record’s first issue of the new year in 1969 — 50 years ago. It was an event longtime residents never will forget.

On a cold winter night that recorded a low of minus 14 degrees and 20 to 25 mph north-northwest winds, a building housing Duckwall’s and Case and Son Insurance burned to the ground.

Marion High School alumni who are members of Alumni Radio Players will perform three one-act plays Saturday night in the Performing Arts Center. Members of the ensemble are Brett Billings, Luke Bowers, Lucy Collett, T.C. Edwards, Isaac Guetersloh, Cassy Legg, Riley Ross, and Emily Svoboda. All are college students home for Christmas break.
