Kansas House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday banning smoking in most enclosed public places and businesses. The Kansas Senate previously approved the same bill in February 2009.

Marion High School students Landon Leiker and Sarah Guetersloh performed Saturday in Wichita as part of the Kansas Music Educators Association Class 1-2-3-4A State Honors Band.

Guetersloh, a trombonist, and Leiker, a trumpeter, earned their places in the band by auditioning in January.

Barry Linnens, owner and president of Cottonwood Valley Bank in Florence and Cedar Point, has purchased Pilsen State Bank in Lincolnville. Linnens said Kurt Spachek would continue in his present role along with other employees.

Marion Elementary School kindergarten student Karlee Fetrow is pictured as she sprinkles salt on green eggs. Green eggs and ham were served for lunch, and students could wear hats to school for “Cat in the Hat” Day. They also watched a Dr. Seuss movie with their lunch.

The family of Jim and Violet Richmond surprised the couple for their 50th wedding anniversary with a supper at Marion Country Club.
