Membership in Marion Chamber of Commerce has reached an all-time high, President Gerry Harris announced Friday at the monthly meeting. Membership now totals 105.
Pam Bredemeier was the top scorer in a “bingo, bango, bongo” competition at Thursday evening’s Ladies Night function at Marion Country Club.
Marion County Lake is turning 50 years old. A group of county sportsmen led a petition drive and bond election in the 1930s to build the 153-acre lake. The Civilian Conservation Corps started construction in 1936. County officials are considering holding a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening, which was May 26, 1940.
JoAnn Good, foreign language teacher at Marion High School was sponsor of a group of local students on a three-week tour of Europe. Students seeing foreign lands for the first time were Dale Heidebrecht, Wendy Winter, Tina Miller, and Lane Allison. Good also took her 8-year-old son, Ethan, along to visit the famous historical places.
A1C Kimberly J. Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hett, has just returned from a 24-day trip to Turkey, Italy, Germany, Bahrain, Spain, and Kuwait. Kim is loadmaster on one of the USAF’s C-141B Starlighter cargo aircraft.
