A badly decomposed body of a young woman was found Monday afternoon by road workers who were patching potholes on the Durham-Lincolnville Road. Members of the crew are Kenneth Jost, Garry Klose, Mark Jones, and Charlie Gibbs. The remains have yet to be identified and the cause of death determined.
Patty Jeffrey, daughter of Mary Jeffrey of Marion, and David Kahle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Kahle of Herington, were married Sept. 5 on the patio at the home of the bride’s mother.
The city of Florence has received a $35,000 bequest from the estate of deceased resident Mae Evelyn Kolodziejczak. According to the terms of Kolodziejcak’s will, $15,000 was left for cemetery improvements, $15,000 designated for building an animal shelter, and $5,000 to used to beautify City Park on Grandview Drive.
Cecilie Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Swain of Marion, won six blue ribbons in the cloth and textile competition last week at the Kansas State Fair.
Six junior girls at Marion High School are vying to be chosen FFA Sweetheart by the Marion-Florence Chapter of Future Farmers of America. The candidates are Tonya Jensen, Genette Bolte, Sheri Plenert, Donna Box, Lori Lalouette, and Robin Summervill. The winner will be announced Sept. 25 during half-time ceremonies at the Marion-Peabody football game.
