Because the county lacks zoning laws, billboards advertising businesses cannot be located on the new route of U.S. 56. Officials from the Marion and Hillsboro chambers of commerce are expected to appear before the county commission in the near future to discuss zoning.

With the coming of fall, many residents are busy raking leaves in their yards. Autumn has turned the leaves on many trees bright with color and the falling decorations form a leafy carpet on the landscape.

Army Specialist 4 Laurie L. Silhan has arrived for duty in South Korea with the 45th Transportation Co. She is an avionic communications equipment repairer and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Silhan of Marion.

A class to teach techniques using microwave ovens will be offered Nov. 12 at Lynn’s Farm Equipment.

A fund has been set up at Marion National Bank to benefit Loretta Looney. The mother of two small children was the victim of a recent house fire at her rented home at 321 S. Lincoln.

Jeff Riffel of Tampa will be one of 11 Kansans to receive the American Farmer degree at the National Future Farmers of America convention Nov. 11 to 14 in Kansas City.

Alex “Casey” Case has been making a big name for himself with the Aspen Rugby Football Club, which recently completed an undefeated season. In Case’s three seasons with the team, they have compiled an enviable 55-3 record.
