The city will be even better decorated this year, the second year for a Christmas lighting project promoted by Marion Chamber of Commerce. Workers of Creative Display of Kansas City, this week, added strings of the lights to 18 more buildings in Marion.

E.K. Schroeder, DDS, has retired after 40 years of dental practice in Marion. The dentist and his wife Ruby were honored Friday during a Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Prairie View held an open house Sunday to show off the newly remodeled community mental health center in Marion. A steady stream of visitors toured the former nuns’ convent building next to St. Luke Hospital.

Nicholas Carlson celebrated his first birthday Saturday evening at a family dinner at the home of his parents, Greg and Linda Carlson.

Construction has recently been completed on the new building that forms an attractive and useful wing to the Marion Presbyterian Church. It will be dedicated at a public service scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

Rick Schwendiman, plant supervisor at Vanguard Plastic, Beaufort, S.C., polybutylene extrusion facility, recently hosted the Vanguard sales representative force for a plant tour. Schwendiman is the son of Tillie and Kenneth Schwendiman of Marion.
