Those present in the full courtroom when Judge Melvin Gradert administered the oath of office to Sheriff Ed Davies Friday morning included his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Davies, his wife, Gemma, other relatives and friends. It is the first time in county history that a former sheriff’s son has been named to the office.

Members of Marion Girl Scout Troop 66 were in Emporia Saturday for the Senior Cadette Planning Board meeting. Members of the troop are Jennifer Blount, Sarah Blount, Ashley Loomis, Lesley Sieger, and Lori Tice.

Matt Newhouse has joined the Marion County Record staff as a reporter/photographer. A graduate of Kansas Newman College, Wichita, where he was editor of the award-winning campus newspaper, he is a native of Oklahoma City.

Marion County’s first arm wrestling tournament is scheduled April 16 at Goodman’s Picnic Nook and Lounge in Lincolnville, according to Chris Horn, Kansas representative for World Class Promotions.

A total of seven businesses are located in Marion Mini Mall, with an eighth opening within the next month, according to Janis Maggard and Laurie Miesse, owners of Touch of Country and Calico Cupboard respectively.
