Jim Crofoot was flipping pancakes during Saturday’s annual Kiwanis fund-raiser. Proceeds will go for the benefit of the nature trail alongside Central Park and for Camp Pride.

Marion School District board of education members met Monday night and approved a proposed asbestos-removal plan to begin this summer. The plan, which will probably cost more than $200,000, is for the complete removal of all asbestos.

Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Nathan Smith and Matt Classen are pictured awarding a first dollar of profit to Joy Vogel, owner of Classy Kids and the Waterman Seed, and welcoming her to the business community. The store carries children’s used clothing and toys, as well as maternity wear and baby items.

Ciba-Geigy Corporation has announced that Mark Jirak, formerly of the Tampa community, has been relocated to their Turf and Ornamental Products department as field marketing representative for the Mid-Atlantic states.

Myron Frans, a native of Marion and a corporate and taxation attorney with a 90-attorney 120-year-old law firm, has been appointed to serve on the Hennepin County Bar Associations’ ethics committee for the twin cities-area of Minnesota. He previously practiced law in Washington, D.C. He is the son of Fern Palmer of Marion and the late Charles Frans.
